About Us

Hideaway Guest House, Knysna, Garden Route

Hideaway Guest House has recently undergone a full refurbishment. The design has retained the historical integrity and charm of the heritage status main house. While the entire roof has been replaced, the original pine flooring has been kept in the main house, which features hardwood flooring throughout. The electrical wiring has been replaced and all rooms boast with ample and easily accessible plug points.

Complimentary, high speed wireless Internet is available in all areas and traveling professionals can catch up on work in our dedicated business centre. Guests are invited to make use of the pool area, as well as the guest lounge. A Continental and fresh warm breakfast is served in the dining room. We support our local suppliers and craftsmen – the furniture in the common areas has been made from indigenous timber by legendary local manufacturer Fechters Furniture. Please ask us about our laundry service.

Environmental Awareness

Every effort is made to use as little energy and water as possible, and to make use of renewable resources as much as possible. Our staff, our most valuable assets, are well trained in our energy and water saving initiatives and work with us to minimise our carbon footprint.

Our solar energy system provides the entire property with electricity converted from sunlight. This means that Hideaway Guest House is not affected by loadshedding and all plug points should be regarded as live during scheduled power cuts. Air conditioners are the only appliances that will not be operational during loadshedding, but the double glazed windows in all our rooms mean that less energy is needed to heat or cool your room. These windows also allow for more privacy and reduced external noise pollution. All lights have been fitted with energy efficient globes and much of the outdoor lighting is motion activated.

We harvest rainwater, which is filtered thoroughly before it is introduced into our system. While we augment our water supply with rainwater, we make every effort to use water sparingly. All en-suites are equipped with spacious showers only.

Making a Difference

There are many other ways in which we try to make a difference. We make use of biodegradable products for cleaning and general maintenance where possible. We collect plastic wrappers and other suitable single use plastics to make plastic bottle bricks, which are used to manufacture a number of items – even houses. We collect all empty toilet rolls, egg boxes and suitable plastic containers on behalf of the Knysna Education Trust for use in their Grade R school initiatives. All other refuse is separated into wet waste and recyclable materials for municipal collection. Replaced linen and towels are donated to local safehouses and children’s homes run by Emzini Tours.
